Sponsors Make The “Bachelor World” Go Round

I listened to the most recent episode of Bachelor Party. This podcast is about the hit reality/dating TV show, The Bachelor. As a Bachelor viewer myself, I thought it would be interesting to listen to. The two women who host the show, talk about a variety of things that take place during each episode. They mention “dramatic events”, or just the general “hot gossip” to keep you up to date on each thing the contestants do or say. During this podcast they also engaged with audience/listeners and answer some questions that were asked on Twitter. They also talked about how the show could improve, past seasons, future seasons, and even other dating shows. All related in some way to “The Bachelor”. Another thing that was related to this show was the sponsors that were mentioned at the beginning, middle, and end of the podcast.

Throughout this podcast they not only were very engaging, but they stayed on topic. The sponsors that were played were as listed:

Hotel Tonight – Which was described as a “matchmaker” for the person trying to book a hotel

Qalo – Silicone Rings that were said to “reinvent the wedding industry”, also mentioned to use code “COLTON” for 20% off

Article – Well made Scandinavian furniture, go to article.com/bachelor for $50 off a purchase of $100 or more.

So as you can see each sponsor incorporated the bachelor into its advertisement. Using words like “matchmaking” and “wedding” or including discount codes that have to do with the bachelor , it was all relatable to what is talked about. I believe this is a way to keep the listeners listening. If there is going to be ads, then i’m glad they at least weren’t completely off topic.

Iv’e also come to the realization that this podcast is free advertisement for “The Bachelor” itself. They talk about each episode with such detail, making sure to include what’s great about this season and what can be improved “without being too negative” of course. They gossip about what isn’t included in the show like his personal life and what he does for fun.

The host was talking about how she herself also talks to former contestants on the phone. This brings you even closer to some of the past contestants. Stating that they might even be on it’s sister show Bachelor in Paradise. This podcast encourages the audience to watch these shows as well as attempt to make each person more intriguing. So this isn’t only benefiting itself but it is benefiting Bachelor Nation in general. These sponsors that are included are making that happen. Hence, “Sponsors make the “Bachelor World” go round”.

The Use of Social Media

Social media usage has increased tremendously in the past few years. Each app is used for a specific purpose. They are also updating and adding new features every few weeks, making for a good advertisement for their app. Everyone likes “bigger” and “better”, and they are doing just that.

Creating a info graphic, I found that some apps were more used than others. These findings were surprising according which ones I personally use and don’t use. Except of course for Facebook which came in #1 and the age ranges for these apps were also as I predicted. Though I was surprised to see that Whatsapp is used more than Twitter and Instagram.

Effects of Social Media

Social media has become very impactful to young adults and adolescents. This popular form of communication is changing the way society communicates. It is both beneficial and detrimental to your well being and mentality. How you use it and respond to it can speak volumes of the person you are. If you allow the negative to affect you, it can bring your self- esteem very low. If you use it and respond to it in a positive manner, the benefits will out way the negatively.

Social media can be positive because, for people like me, it allows me to stay connected to the people and places I can’t be due to my day to day busy schedule. Sometimes, I feel disconnected and out of the loop if I don’t have access to it. It is definitely convenient to have everything you need to know right at your fingertips. Though like said before it can be negative if you decide to use it in a way that won’t benefit you the way you want. It is truly dependent upon the user.  This, negative correlation I believe has a lot to do with self esteem issues in this younger generation. They put their thoughts or photo online and it is judged by the amount of likes or comments back. If they don’t get the response they hoped, it can lower their perception of themselves but only if they allow it to.

The user is ultimately responsible for the effects social media has on themselves. Negative comments will always be “out there” infiltrating feeds whether we allow it to or not. The user has to realize there’s a chance it will be present, and they have to choose their reaction to it.  Rising above negativity is always the best option, and not partaking in it or adding to it will serve the user better. We are a fortunate generation to have “access to the world” at our fingertips. We need to protect it, ourselves, and others as much as possible. We must begin by using social media responsibly, intelligently, and to the best of our abilities for the best results. So, social media can go either way, negative or positive.

Whether it is personal or professional, I believe the use of social media is mostly beneficial. As time passes we are gaining more ways in which we can use it. Checking news updates, watching online videos or seeing peoples opinions help us become a more well rounded person. Social media can help better our understanding of important worldly topics or even just to check in with our friends. Down the line, apps will fade in and out. New ways of communicating will come about and who knows, Instagram might be the new Myspace. The next generation might not have a clue what it is. Just like money, social media makes the world go round. Even Advertising in particular is very reliant on this type of media to attain data they need for their product. If people like a certain product they most likely are going to post about it. The way in which companies sell products is more efficient and most of all free advertisement. We and companies are constantly improving our way of communication, and sales but only improving if used right!

Technology and its Influence (Technology and AD & PR Blog)

We now live in a world where technology has a big influence for the success of “good” advertising. Displaying a product on a billboard, is now not as useful as displaying it on a TV or cell phone. Someone can see it in the comfort of their own home rather than being out and about. Before I started majoring in Advertising, I was really interested in the film industry, which I still very much am. But now that I have the option of advertising my favorite thing, film, I decided that’s just what I wanted to do. Making movie trailers to encourage people too see a great film, sounds pretty cool.

The advancement of technology has skyrocketed in the past 20 years. I can only imagine how far we will come in the next decade. Advertisement for technology has likely helped most of those sales and is what kept the need for “what’s next” and “bigger and better”. We all want something new and fresh to explore and expand our social networks, ideas, and knowledge that can be done right in the palm of our hands, like a new cell phone. AD & PR has taken advantage of this opportunity threw media apps and peoples search histories. Now that they know what the people want, it can be more beneficial for this industry to advertise what they will buy and what they are looking for in a specific product. I was born before laptops were affordable and iphones were invented. So I can say for myself, that I have seen the impact that technology and advertising has had on the world from my own eyes. The film industry has also improved over the years, which has sparked my interest ever since I was a child. As I got older I started seeing advertisements for movie trailers on all the new technology that was now available for us to use. Not only the television and newspaper, but laptops, phones, ect. I can assume that the box office sales went up drastically after bigger and better ways to advertise them came about. Technology has helped not only other businesses but has helped itself. This has allowed for new jobs and probably a little less work for the people standing outside holding up a sign that says “50% off”. Though this is a very positive thing, I can also see that within the next decade, as technology improves even more, it can become negative. It may be opening up new jobs now, but as time goes on and technology “outsmarts” us, it will ultimately be able to do what we cannot. Leaving some positions in sales, useless. But for right now we can only appreciate the capabilities we have with technology itself. Just like how blogging, is a great way for me to advertise my interests and hobbies about Advertising and Public Relations, having this ability will definitely benefit me in the near future for further job opportunities and just documentation!
